Caring for toddlers

enfance

This is one of the main priority of the Development Chart of the Country of Ploermel enacted in 2002 within the Leader+ Programme which was implemented since then. Health care and services provided to people were largely developed over the past few years, in the field of variety and change of habits.

Setting up day care centres for toddlers and children is one of the major issue to enable women to work. In 2003, a survey was initiated by the Children and Mother Help Services of Ploermel (PMI) in order to determine the needs over the area. At that time, there were 489 certified nannies ready to take care of 1,290 children under three. Only 15 towns which are part of the Communities of cities of Val d’Oust and Lanvaux (Malestroit area) had an office who could provide for a list of certified nannies (a specific office in charge of connecting parents with certified nannies) called RPAM to spot and find certified nannies who would take care of children under three at their home.

Only three public specialized homes, located in Malestroit, Ploermel and Guer could also provide for taking care of 80 children in a day-care environment. This allowed us to spot the actual need for children and toddlers within a day care system in 2002. Today we can record major improvements. The offer increased by 10% since 2003. Moreover, 48 out of 54 towns which are part of the Ploermel Area-Coeur of Brittany, i.e. 90% of the total population can profit by possible connection between offer and demand within the 4 intercity “Family-Certified Nannies Centres” (RPAM) which were created.
