Services to Elderly

Ageing of the population is a major challenge for the Pays de Ploërmel-Cœur de Bretagne: the number of elderly people increases as well as the percentage inside the population. The number of elderly over 60 will go to 16,000 in 1999 up to 19,000 by 2020; it will reach 23,000 by 2030. The number of elderly people over 80 will be multiplied by 3 or 4.

The actual increase will clearly show as of 2010: 5,700 elderly persons over 80 compared with 2,500 in 1999. There will be 9,500 by 2030. In comparison, the total population number will remain the same.

The majority of elderly people live at home and wish to stay home as long as possible. This is why the main objective of the Pays de Ploërmel-Coeur de Bretagne is to set up all necessary services to be provided for the elderly and their families. As a matter of fact, the CLIC is aiming at offering all necessary services for the elderly to stay home under the best conditions.
