Sporting events

Since year 2003, the “Pays de Ploermel – Cœur de Bretagne” is supporting projects aiming at providing a better offer of services ready for the local population, when coming and settling over. It clearly showed that sporting events were fully integrated to such approach.

A wide-spread getting-together action

Local members of the various acting bodies have been concentrating their efforts since summer 2004 (mainly within town and intercity bodies in charge of sporting events) along with Sport Department s, in particular with the Morbihan Department and the Olympic and Sport Committee; as a result, the Country may develop today a consistent approach towards setting up sporting events and leisure.

Three working axes

• Promoting high-level sport activities over the area : such approach is part of a specific action initiated by the “Community of Towns in Ploermel”. It is supported by existing sporting equipment which meet high-level standards. • Developing the greatest number of sport activities: this implies that local elected members and sports associations get together to work on it. The federating manager is represented by the Morbihan Sporting Olympic Department Committee. Priorities must be determined according both themes as defined here-above. • Tourism upgrading of outdoor sport activities: such a goal is managed by the Tourist Country of the Oust area to Broceliande (which covers the same geography area as the Country). The target is mainly to develop outdoor sport activities and represents a close connection between sport and environment patrimony. The goal is mainly to strengthen the links existing between professional members working in the field of tourism in order to develop economic activities.

Programme of actions

Within the framework of the Leader+ programme developed by the “Country of Ploermel-Cœur de Bretagne”, many actions have already been set forth. The Community of the Towns of Ploermel has already started promoting active steps with professional members to invite major clubs to come and train in the Country. Moreover, the cycle Society of Malestroit is offering an advanced Junior Department as of the beginning of the 2006 school year. The Rennes Football Club is already coming over quite often to train here! The Canoe-Kayak Roncier Club of Josselin is getting new equipment for members of all levels. The “Community of towns of Pays de Guer” is planning to start up an association with an intercity Sport Office. And eventually, the Tourist Country of the Valley of Oust to Broceliande is working in close cooperation with the estuary of Gironde and Gevaudan to get specific standards for outdoor sport activities in order to guarantee the right level in the leisure sport field.
